TBTT: The campaign in Pakistan
CREATE AND BE A PART OF TAKE BACK THE TECH!
Jehan Ara presents the Take Back the Tech! campaign and how it rolled out in Pakistan, in collaboration with the electronic media community and NGO's fighting domestic violence for decades. "There's no reason why women should be deprived of technology simply because there is crime that exists on line, but they need to be aware not only how to keep themselves safe, but how to empower themselves and use technology in a very powerful way". "The excitement, the passion, the realisation that there was a problem. Some have stories to share, some have experienced online violence themselves or their friends... as regular users of technology, they needed to do something about it. Bloggers started blogging. We made videos of why the issues were important in Urdu and English, to spread the word. We want women to be empowered to use technology to create networks on line, and to provide a structure for online help and support." "We created the connection with electronic media, as well. And we discussed the electronic crime ordinance. Let-s talk about it, bring it all out, share stories, try and help each other, spread the word, and make sure that the online space is safe for everyone." Courtesy of the CIO Web Studio.
